Lay Worship Leaders

Do your strengths lead you to want to proclaim the word of God, to assist the priest during worship, or to serve at Christ's table?  If so you may want to investigate these three ministries.  Teams of Acolytes, Lay Eucharistic Ministers, and Lectors help with most of our worship services.

The 10 am Acolytes

Acolytes seek to fulfill our mission of serving Christ by assisting the priest during the service.  We’re doing our job well if we are able to handle our responsibilities without being noticed.  Some of our duties include:  carrying the cross, torches, or Gospel during processions; assisting the priest in setting up the altar for communion and marking important points in the liturgy with the ringing of bells.

To serve at the altar is both an honor and a privilege, and one that our loyal team of youth acolytes richly deserves.  We also have a dedicated and responsible cadre of adult servers.

Children in grades 3 and up and adults are welcome to join the acolyte team at any time during the year.  Please call me at 484-6724 or email bridget@frii.com if you or your child are interested in becoming an acolyte.

The 10 am Lay Eucharistic Ministers
We serve God through assisting the priest in distributing communion.  We carry the cup of wine, Blood of the new Covenant, and by sharing it with everyone present enact the welcome and belonging that is fundimental at Christ's table.  All have a place there.

We also double as lectors, reading the first selection from scripture for the day and leading the psalm, or leading the prayers of the people.  We are thus doubly blessed in being able to serve.

Lay Eucharistic Ministers are trained in their role and licensed by the diocese for a period of three years.  If you would like to join in this way of sharing ministry, please email me  roseanlaurie@gmail.com or call me at 970-556-3111.  We offer trainings throughout the year as the need arises.

Laurie Gudim -- Team Leader, 10 am LEMs and Lectors

The 7:30 am Acolyte-Chalice Ministers
At 7:30 am the duties mentioned above are combined.  Two people help the priest lead worship, and each serves as
assistant, and also either reads the first scripture passage and the psalm, or guides the prayers of the people.  These people are trained as acolytes, lectors, and Lay Eucharist MInisters.  As Lay Eucharistic Ministers, they are licensed by the diocese.  If you are interested in learning more, please email Tim Johnson, Team Leader.  He can be reached at tjohn2@comcast.net .

The Lectors
The second scripture reading at both the 7:30 am and the 10 am Sunday services is read by an individual who comes
forth from the congregation to do so.  The
practiced, well-articulated proclamation of God's Word is a ministry that allows all of us to open our
ears and hear in new ways.  If you love to read and love the Bible, this may be your calling.  To explore this for the 7:30 am worship service, please email Tim Johnson, Team Leader, at  tjohn2@comcast.net.  If you are interested in learning more about this ministry at the 10 am worship, please let Laurie Gudim know by emailing her at roseanlaurie@gmail.com or calling her at 970-556-3111
